Wenny Dong (b. 1989, St. Louis, Missouri) is a mixed media artist based in Washington, D.C. She spent her childhood between the American Midwest and Beijing, China. Her work reflects her process of self-awareness and conscientiousness of her role in different communities and spaces. Combining and juxtaposing various materials, techniques, and distinct visual references, she finds shared gestures and themes. By creating these intersections in her artwork, often with a whimsical or oneiric effect, she invites the viewer to experience her point of view and amalgam of cultures towards a larger conversation about identity and the composition of a multifaceted self. Through painting, collage, interactive sculpture, and installation art, she finds beauty in functional and seemingly ordinary objects. She explores their creative possibilities to infuse art into daily life and offers discrete moments of reverie and joy. She attended Washington University in St. Louis for her undergraduate studies in Spanish and International Area Studies. She has a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University-School of Advanced International Studies.
